Broke my Mojo M casting rod right before Ontario trip!

Featured Replies

This is an MJC71MF my 3rd SC stick I've used a 7' Avid and 7' Premier for years no problem. This one I've used three times and a 2lber flopped and broke it about 12" from the end. Granted perhaps poor form but still...

So I like the Dobyns Fury M F can I get recommendations for some thing else? I don't have time for a SC replacement although Park Falls WI is only an hour two out of the way on our trip north next week. Id appreciate thoughts

I leant my kid my 6'8" M/XF topwater rod, and that broke on a small weed. Fortunately, it was still under warranty so I got a new one. The replacement is still going strong and I've caught a lot of fish on it. You should see if yours is covered under warranty, that's a pretty good rod with a good power and action and can throw a lot of things. And chances are, the replacement won't break so easily.

As for Dobyns, I think you will be a little disappointed with the Fury. I would go with a Sierra 703C which is a much better rod for a little more money. t's also a very useful rod, but has a slower tip so it's really good with treble hooked baits around lighter grass and such while still keeping them pinned - where the St Croix 7'1" M/F is better for soft plastics with a faster tip.

Ok thanks I'll call St. Croix to see if I can get something going this week

If you can't get something going with St. Croix, a rod in a similar price range to the dobyn's fury lineup is the carbonlite technique. I have the glidebait and bladed jig models and I have been pleased with the performance of both rods. I use the bladed jig rod for my bigger topwaters and "small" crawlers, and the glidebait rod gets used for anything with a treble hook within the listed weight range.

I think we will stop by the St Croix factory out let. The Mojo bass M F 7'1" really fills a nice gap in my arsenal for 4-5" swim baits and senkos this is what ive been using it most for. Then i have a 7' Dobyns ML spinning rig for 3" swimbaits, Kalins, etc.
