Curado

Featured Replies

Im thinking of getting a new reel but confused, so many to choose from. My goal for this reel is for throwing 1/2 oz or lighter chatter baits on a 7 ft -7-4 glass rod

The reel is the curado 151 mgl

I see a 151 m also , so I did a search on google for the difference between the mgl and the m. AI came up with this, Im going to paste it. Thanks

Feel free to delete if I did something wrong by posting it Thanks

The primary difference is generational: the Shimano Curado 151 MGL is the older 2021 model, while the Shimano Curado 151 M is the upgraded newer generation. (Note: The "151" designation simply means both are the left-handed versions of the 150-size reel). [1, 2, 3]

Key Differences

  • Spool Technology: The older 151 MGL features the second-generation MGL spool. The newer 151 M upgrades to the MGL Spool III. This newer design is narrower and thinner, reducing start-up inertia by roughly 15% to deliver even better distance and precision with light lures. [1, 2, 3, 4]

  • Body Design & Ergonomics: The 151 M introduces a flatter, more compact, and more ergonomic frame compared to the older MGL model. It palms much more comfortably during long days on the water. [1, 2, 3]

  • Side Plate Material: The 151 M utilizes a CI4+ carbon side plate, making the reel feel slightly lighter and better balanced in the hand. [1, 2]

  • Refined Internals: The 151 M integrates SilentTune technology to reduce spool shaft vibration during casts, resulting in a quieter and smoother casting experience than the older 151 MGL. [1]

  • Aesthetics: The older MGL has a distinct jet-black top plate, green side plates, and a heavily ported black spool. The 151 M features a sleek, unified matte cosmetics update.

For the lighter lures check out the 71.
