Looking for Strongest Spinnerbait

Featured Replies

It’s not a standard Spinnerbait, but have you looked at a free-swinging type like the strike king redfish magic? Holds up really well to bowfin down here in NC (very similar to snakehead and they will wreck a spinnerbait every time).

First off @Larg

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource.

As for actual size, I don't fish for them, so I can't say what a 'big' snakehead is.

But I also really enjoy catching big fish on spinnerbaits, but they are bass.

A big smallmouth for me is usually over 6 lbs, and a big largemouth would be over, I guess, 8 lbs.

But let's face it, most any plus-sized game fish is going to wreck a regular spinnerbait.

When I tried to max out the baits & components, in an effort to make the baits 'last' longer. I stopped getting the bites I was getting before.

So I needed to reevaluate my priorities. Is it to catch giants or save 5 bucks on a bait?

I want the fish.

Went to work by narrowing down which baits possessed the qualities I thought would get me that bite from fish of a lifetime and were still just stout enough to hook & land her. If they never caught another bass, I could live with that.

The plan now is to have a collection of 'The Baits' on hand and ready to go into service when needed.

I'll watch for sales and keep a good supply on hand.

That works for me rather than trying to solve a problem that not a single tackle maker wants me to solve.

Good Luck.

For me a big snakehead is anywhere between 15-20lbs and they fight absolutely crazy so really I need spinnerbaits that will prevent me from losing big fish. They death roll like crazy and when they bend out a Spinnerbait they can often get off even with stinger hooks. Even small snakeheads like 3-4lbs will completely wreck most spinnerbaits but you are still able to land the fish. Once they start getting big you lose that comfortability.

I fish for bowfin and they love spinnerbaits and yes they destroy them. Your snakeheads may be bigger too. I have switched to the Rollie martin mega strike spinnerbaits. They have a swinging hook; that will hopefully reduce leverage on the wires and reduce that damage. I do think a big bowfin can and will destroy anything, but this may help. They are otherwise pretty durable generally. Other suggestions to make your own or buy Muskie versions also make sense.

We have a ton of them things up here on the lower Delaware and its creeks. I don't target them, but they have worked their way into lakes and even have been introduced into lakes by ignorant anglers who are looking to create more options to fish other than tidal creeks. The biggest ive personally caught have been around 7.5lbs and some others about 3 or 4lbs. Theres a small lake I fish in the winter where a buddy had one that was over 10, but it broke the line at the boat. 15-20lbs must be a real hammer. In the past 3 years, I think the biggest snakehead recorded in the dozens of annual tournaments, is around 13 and change and they're pretty gnarly fish. Hard to imagine a 20lb snakehead and what they do to the local wildlife.
