Double Polamar knot?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone just want to make sure about the Double Polamar knot, how to do it, Do I simply make two passes through the eye before looping over the hook/lure?

ive posted about this before and never got a good accident.  the only time i ever need to improve on a regular palomar is when using braid and what i do is... ok so youve made the overhand knot that you pass the loop through,  pass it through, wrap it around, and pass it through again.

i dont think this is technically a double palamor but i have never had this knot slip (or fail) when using braid).  do not use this double hitch with floro or copolymer that contains floro or it can cut through.

I've never had a regular Palomar knot fail.....

Holy cow a double polamar knot ;) I would think a single would be strong enough from my experience, but what do I know  :o

I use braided line, and to prevent any line/knot malfunctions, I make sure my knots are perfect. Even though I have never had a knot malfunction with braided line, I just want to be sure. Start of by overlapping you line a little. Then put the line through the eye hole 2 times, instead of one. After that, make 2 overhand knots, instead of 1. I then pass the hook through the loop and tighten down. Basically I just double everything from a single palomar knot.

Just for added assurances I tie 1 or 2 overhand knots on the tag end (As close to the palomar knot as possible) JUST IN CASE!!

I told you, I am crazy with my knots. :o

I haven't yet seen a double polamar knot fail.  Just do a single knot, as you normally would, and check it after every fish.  I tend to keep an eye on it every 5 or so casts.  I run this knot on the drop shot, and never have seen an issue with it...  Usually catching a fish, will cause the knot to tighten up to a point, that it won't come loose.  Just make sure you cut it off after 20-30 fish, as the line begins to stretch, then you might see an issue...  GL!

I find it easier to do a trilene knot BUT you take the tag end back through your loop on the outside of the line never failed me using power pro and so easy to tie

That's the way I do it. I prefer this knot for lines under 10# test. Anything above that, the knot is more difficult to tie right, and the line will bite on itself well enough without it. My 2 cents.

yeah i dont think that i necessarily need the extra hitch or whatever you call it but it does give me extra confidence and i have had knots slip when using braid before, although it was no doubt  partly due  to an imperfect knot.
