Englishman looking for bass, good food and plenty laughs

Featured Replies

Hello all, I’m a English/Scottish lad, I tasted bass fishing on a few recent trips to Maine.

Fell in love with the place, coffee on the front porch, donning my crocks and taking my rod, swim shorts with a small lure box swinging, pushing out the canoe on a foggy summer morning. Silently cruising past a small island with an American Eagle watching me, I smiled, he nodded.

Small mouth hit my fox vibrax spinner lures, pulling hard and bending my rod, low poundage monoflement I’d crudely took with me, feeling every beat as they fought.

At dusk I’d swim out to the swim platform just off the bottom of the garden, rod in hand, swimming like a one limbed frog. Throw a surface twitching lure, one covered in scars, a rattler, most have cost me pennies, I’m sure it was in a china Amazon set from way back, green stripes, white belly, a proper walking dog.

Developed an obsession with lures, the little box has become a bigger one!

Want to test frogs weedless lures perhaps next time, saw so much sign and couldn’t do it with the lures I had!

Figured that big bass hiding in the Lillie’s and weeds, crafty devil ha!

Are you Scottish or English? Can't be both at same time! Ha!

You may have a hard time finding bass in Maine! We have a member here Swamp Girl who catches them all.

Maine bass answer to her!

So if you want to catch bass in Maine.....

Welcome aboard.

You write well, EnglishBen. Good storytelling! Next time you come to Maine, give me a shout and I'll guide you. Here's a Maine bass caught by the last angler I guided:

He's just a kid, which is why I covered his face.
