All Purpose 2-Piece Spinning Rod Suggestions

Featured Replies

Any Suggestions on decent 2-Piece All Purpose Spinning Rod?

I'm looking for a 2-Piece rod that I can use when camping. In the Northeast, most campgrounds stock their ponds with trout, but not always. Thus, I'm looking for something that will work with trout, panfish and finesse bass fishing. I will probably be throwing lures in the 1/8" to 1/2" range. I'm thinking 6" to 6'6" in length.

My budget is about $100 for the rod, or $160 for a combo. This setup will only be used a few times a year, so I cannot justify spending more.

As a teen, the Browning Boron was the rod that we dreamed about, so I'm considering a Browning Midas while they are at sale at BPS. Eventually, I'd mate it with a Daiwa Exceler.

I've also considered the Cabela's Tournament ZX / XML Combo in ML.

Thanks

Leon

Honestly, I think your picks are pretty good and you could find a couple more either in the bionic blades or other BPS rods as well as Lightning rods or similar.  For a couple uses a year, I think the lightning rod or BPS rod in the $40 range might be my upper limit.

One more thing now that I think of it...  check with BPS and see if they still have the 3 piece Penn spinning rods... I bought one a couple years ago and it will fit in most backpacks...  I bought it to fit in my carry on luggage with my fly rods.  They had them in L, ML and M powers and were 6' and 6'6".  If I remember correctly, I paid like $50-$60 then so I bet they are still in your budget.

Hey check this out at Cabelas: It is what I have in one piece and it comes in two piece Im posting the ML but it also comes in M action

The rod is a StCroix Premier and the reel is a #6735 Pflueger President reel It comes out to 10 bucks less than the combo you mentioned WHICH I HAVE NEVER USED SO I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH but I love this combo so see what you think

See what you think also for only a couple of uses a year you may want to consider the president/Pflueger IM 8 combo I had one It was good but I love the St Croix a whole lot more the combo is 119 also at Cabelas Good Luck

Thanks for the input. ;)

I've been pretty impressed with the Lightning rods that I've handled. They seem like a great value. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on one of the Penn rods. Thanks fletchero.

Muddy, no surprise your recommend the Pflueger's :D. I'll have to check them out again. In my area, the Premier is the overwhelming favorite for bass fishing. I should play with a L or ML to how they would work with the smaller species.

Thanks!
