What size swimbait--rod?

Featured Replies

I have a MH Shimano Compre rod 12-20lb test and 3/8-1-1/4 oz. Can I throw any of Matt lures on this rod?

Yeah, you definetely can. Its not ideal if you hook a 15 pounder  ;) but it will definetely sling the baits and land fish for you. Have a blast!

My only concern is it goes up to 1 1/4 oz and Matt lures begin at 1.3oz and go to 2oz.  Wouldn't I have a problem with 1.3, 1.5, 1.75, 1.9 and 2.0oz lures?

The most you can cast with that rod is 2 oz, reason why, when you purchase a rod for swimbaits is to purchase a rod ( you are already going to spend ) capable of handling more weight, that way when you step up into more swimbaits you have a rod to handle them, now you are limited to no more than 2 oz.  :-/

So, Raul--would you recommend buying the Baby Bass or Bluegill?

MH can toss a Baby Bass easily, my Medium can. I havn't tried but you can probaly cast a Bluegill on the MH too.

As for selection, the Baby Bass seems to be the best selling mattlures, so I would go with that.

Go for the Baby Bass, I 've got both ( BB & BG ), I 've caught 5 times more fish with the BB than with the BG, not bigger fish but more, the BG is a huge chunk and not every fish can mouth it, the BB is a lot more slender and more mouthable. If I were going to purchase I would first try to get them directly from Matt, he has a special ( 3 baits x $30 ), otherwise you will be paying full price for each ( $12 ea ). E-mail him first to see if he can send you the baits right away ( he 's got lots of orders ), if the itch is just too much and you just need to scratch it then order them from ***, btw, if you order more than 50 bones from TW they give you free shipping.

Yes sir I would. Matt 's bluegill was his first sb in the market, got one, liked it, got another, then in many of Matt 's post he unveiled the BB, it wasn 't in production yet, it was a prototype and still on the test ....... and he had us drooling for 6 or 8 months  ;) , then finally after that period of time he began pouring enough to sell, I managed to get one and the bluegill has seen little action since then. I would ceratinly go for 3 BBs before thinking about getting a BG. Now, while the BB may get a 5 in the blingometer the BG gets a 9, it 's painted beautifully ( the male BG ), BBs don 't have that level of detail but also true BBs aren 't exactly the most colorful fish in the pond.  ;)
