Shimano or Daiwa

Featured Replies

I was considering getting my Dad his first baitcaster for his birthday. Would you reccomend the Citica or the Daiwa Advantage. Thanks

I have used both and both are good reels for the money. I like the 100 size Citia better than the 200. Cabelas has a sale on the Advantage right now though http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0010924119141a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=diawa+advantage&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=diawa+advantage&noImage=0

While they are both good reels. I have to ask, has your dad ever used a baitcaster?

The reason I ask is that the Shimano® Citica uses a Variable Brake System (VBS) that uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast for increased distance and adjustability. These are set by dropping the palming plate to adjust the centrificale brake pins.

While the Daiwa® Advantage uses the New Magforce®-Z automatic magnetic anti-backlash system with the dial on the outside of the palming plate.

One will be easier than the other to setup, depending on his experience with baitcasting reels.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

I am a Shimano guy, but the Advantage is the best reel for the money I have ever used.

I have a number of Shimano reels, and favour Shimano, but I agree with the above post. I own the TD Advantage (HST) model and for the money it costs, I think it might be one of the very best reels on the market.
