Abu Garcia at Wal Mart

Featured Replies

Who can tell me anything about the Abu Garcia 5000 that Wal Mart sells for just under $50.00

Is it the same as, similar to, or substantially different from the 4600, or 5500 C3 sold at BPS or Cabelas.

For occasional use on heavy equipment, is it satisfactory? Or, am I better off with the C3. It is still listed as being made in Sweden with brass gears, etc.  Is this a model made strictly for Wal Mart?  Any insight would be appreciated.

It won't be the same as a C3 series reel.

More than satisfactory. All Garcia round reels are work horses...

Mostly made for Wally World reels are the older C series reels only color changes are made.

It has bushings also instead of bearings in the spool  still has instant anti reverse though .A nice work horse reel u can depend on

The bushings v. bearings would appear to be the main difference. Given that, it is probably worth the extra $15 to purchase the C3, since there is a current rebate on the Abu.

I have what I think is the 101 series (says 101 on the side). This thing is pretty tough,a nd has survived plenty of banging around in my tackle box and on my backpack.

Abu's are hard to kill! It should be a good reel for the money!

The reels are not made in Sweeden though.  They are "engineered" in Sweden.  But I think they are actually made in China. Not that it really matters or impacts the reel.  But I just always found it a little misleading.  Now wether "engineered" just means designed in sweeden?  Im not 100% sure.  But I cant see them machining the gears in sweeden just to ship the parts to China for assembly.
