First Post...Shimano Crucial, G Loomis or St Croix

Featured Replies

Hello...I have been fishing for a few years and recently decided to trash the old ugly stiks/cheap reels and upgrade my gear.  I have already purchased a Daiwa Fuego and Daiwa Zillion (6:3 to 1) that I fish on BPS Extreme 7' M/MH rods.  I am getting ready to purchase the Daiwa Sol and have made my mind up on the G Loomis BCR893 Senko Rod as this set up will be used for primarly senko fishing.  Is there a Crucial or St Croix that is comparative to the Loomis senko rod?  I want to replace the Extreme rods with either a Crucial, G Loomis or St Croix and was looking for suggestions as to which is a better value/rod.  I know G Loomis is considered the benchmark and many consider St Croix to be just as good but will I regret my choice if I choose the Crucials?  I'm just trying to put together some quality combos without breaking the bank.  Any help you gentlemen can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Tight Lines.

You can't go wrong with St Croix. They have some awesome blanks. I don't keep up with all of their rod models since I build my own rods, but they use the best components and and make their own blanks. G Loomis is owned my Shimano now. They are great rods and also have some of the best components.

I use the 7'mf St. Croix Legend Tournament "teaser" and it is a great senko rod. I paired it up with a citica spooled with Yozuri US and use it for all of my weightless plastic fishing. Check out the review on tackletour.com.

Thanks Ryan and Is1Jay.  The St Croix appears to be a perfect contendor for the G Loomis senko rod.

I have several loomis rods from gl2 to imx.  I also have a croix legend tournament and my dad has a legend elite.  Their is no doubt in my mind that loomis makes a better rod.  I would take the imx over the elite any day for straight performance however the looks on most loomis rods are plain and the croix's have painted blanks and a painted reel seat for the elite.

Are you talking about the mossyback series or the glx for the loomis?

Mossyback series.  GLX=too rich for my military blood.

Thanks, I've been milling around for a little bit and decided to join, great group of people and more information than anybody could use in a lifetime.
