Braided line sensitivity when using a leader

Featured Replies

I just spooled my baitcaster with #20 Spiderwire Stealth,Im also using about 5-6 ft of 10 lb Stren Low Vis green as a leader and as a sort of shock tippet. I have attached the two lines using a Uni-Uni Knot.

Question I have is:

If the Braided line is supposed to be so sensitive, will I lose any sensitivity or feel by attaching the leader. Does the knot make for an obstacle with the sensitivity?

Sorry if the question seems so simple, but I havent ever tried any serious fishing with Braided line

Sensitivity as far as the line is concerned has a lot to do with the density of the material that 's being used to manufacture it, braided is more sensitive than nylon for that reason, the reason why flouro is a better leader material than nylon is because it 's denser and more abrassion resistant. By tying nylon as a leader you loose a little bit of sensitivity, of course all this balance goes to hell when your rod is not sensitive.

Braid's sensitivity comes from its lack of stretch. Your leader will affect it some, but not much.

IE: Your lure is 50' out there. If you are using all mono line, you have 50' of stretchy mono out there. With the braid and leader, now you have 5-6' of stretchy mono out there. It's still a bg increase in sensitivity.

Flouro is also pretty sensitive, so you may think about using flouro leaders.
