A good inexpensive fast action tip rod.

Featured Replies

I am looking for both a baitcaster and spinning rod that has a fast action tip. Can anyone give me some good suggestions that I can check out before I make a decision? Thanks.

This is the kind of question where the answer is, "One man's meat is another's poison" ;) .  Call me paranoid, but I refuse to buy a rod that I haven't seen/used in person.  I suggest this...... Go to your tackle shops.  Carry a small piece of carpet in your pocket (in case the floors there aren't carpeted).  Put the carpet on the floor and test the rod by placing the tip on it and flexing it.  Do this until you find one that suits your taste and budget.  If the shop will allow, take a reel with you and run the line thru the guides and test it that way.

If at all possible I would look at your near by Academy for two reasons; the have an excellent selection of Allstar, Castaway, American Rodsmith, & Falcon rods and they have an excellent return policy.

I will bring my reel, attach it to the rod, tie on the bait I intend use with this rod & if the store owner says anything I politely walk out the front door never returning again.

However this will not be a problem at any Academy ;)

A large majority of rack rods found in the outfitter style stores are fast action tips some even extra fast, although most have a difference's to some degree. Always check the rods spec decal at the foregrip.

Also as suggested here take your reel with you and feel the fit and balance no matter what brand your looking at.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
