Avid AC68MXF for Light Jig Casting?

Featured Replies

I'm considering the Avid AC68MX rod for casting light jigs (1/4oz to 5/16oz) in clear water. My secondary technique of choice for this rod would be throwing 1/4oz. poppers. Much has been written about this rod among forum members, but it seems to me that it has been touted more for it's versitility than any specific technique.

How do you rate this rod for the two techniques of interest--light casting jigs and poppers? Before taking the plunge, I am certainly open to other recommendations.

Absolutely!!!!

I have the Legend Tourney version and it can handle just about anything you thow at it.  I use it mainly for weightless soft plastics and finesse worms on jig heads, but also use it for topwaters and jerkbaits from time to time.

Ditto what KU-Bassmaster said!

I have the AC68mxf paired with a 7.1 Curado and use it for everything listed above plus Rat-l-traps. It's fast becomming my most used outfit.

My girlfriend has this rod and I have barrowed it a couple of times and I do love it.  I have never used it with a jig that had a brush gaurd but I've used it with 1/4-1/2oz spider jigs/hula grubs with open hooks and had a great hook up ratio.

Many thanks for the feedback, guys! I feel better about making the purchase. In fact, my new AC68MXF is being shipped today.
