line visibility

Featured Replies

When fishing a clear water lake at night, is line visibility a factor?

I really don't believe in line visibility at all. The way i see it a fish will see the bait before the line and all of its concentration goes into looking at the bait. If the fish did than please explain why to me that fish will bite a lure tied to yellow line such as Suffix. I do however think line diameter is a concern because i believe fish can dectect the water being moved by the line.  Just stick w/ clear line to be safe.

I don't think so.  Why do you ask?

I don't think line vis at night makes a difference. You can get away with heavier line at night. I still use a lot of #8 for fishing for smallies at night in the open water or off of points and in the gravel flats where they feed at night but, when around a lot of wood or boat docks I use #12 at night on a baitcaster. During the day in the clear impoundments of Western MD I certainly think it makes a difference. I go as light as the cover will allow me in the gin clear water here. I always use green line all year. Its just my choice. I don't care for Flouro or Braid and only use Co Poly Mono with the exception of Yozuri Hybrid Soft in #6. JMO

thanks, I was wondering because i've really been wanting to try braid out, and i figured this could be my chance.

Would you fish braid there during the day?  What qualities of the braid are you interested in?
