Couldn't leave a good soldier behind

Some of you guys might remember a few months ago I broke a rod when setting the hook on the 11lb 4oz fish in my avatar.

It broke off right above the handle and I was left with this, and the full blank from there up.

It is not under warranty and I planned to keep it as a memento of that very cool experience.

But everytime I would walk into my tackle room, i would see the two pieces and be kind of bummed. That rod had been in my hands when I caught my two biggest fish ever, and it layed in ruins.

Last night I decided to resurrect the old Lamiglas. I have some 2ton epoxy that I use for coating hard baits. This is what the rod should look like:

After about an hour of brainstorming, I came up with a plan. I got her all finished up today and the epoxy is drying as I type this. I have never built a rod, or even modified one, and I think it came out pretty good considering I used 0 resources and the very rudimentary tools and materials I had at hand.

Final Product:

I would have left it....carnage is way cool!  :) Just me  8-)

Me too,...at least take a bite out of the grip or something!!

Other than that, nice save.

i'da kept it as a memory! that musta been hella cool to snap a rod on a hookset in a MONSTER bass!!!!!! plus, i dont know how well that epoxy would hold to tough fishing or even a 5lber.

it will hold up better than when it was new, i have no doubt.

i thought that the carnage  was cool too, but it just gets depressing after awhile.

You did the right thing by fixing it back,  pretty darn good job too.  I kinda did like the carnage though. ;D
