Well I just bought a new Pflueger president spinning reel and am pleased the performance, although i am upset about one thing, i accidently pointed out the wrong reel i wanted and didnt notice till i got home that is was alot heavier than the other one, its a model 6740x , wighs 12.3 oz... iwas just wanderingis this is a little too heavy for bass fishing... it seems like slingin that thing all day might get tiresome. Any opinions would be apriciated.

P.S  cant return it cuz i forgot the receipt  :-/

If u put it on a 7 foot rod it should balance out med action .Too me reel weight is more a matter of balance.take the reel to ur fav store and try it out on diff rods,if it balances out right behind or right in front of the reel stem ur in business ;)

If it's not the reel you want, call the store, explain your situation and see if they'll take it back. I've had good luck returning items without a receipt. I even got a reel repaired without any proof of purchase.

It won't cost you anything to ask.

Rod balance is the key.

I have some heavy reels but now I am going to the 2500 series of Shimano spinning reels as they can hold a lot of line and are not that heavy.

I am sure you can return the reel to the store and exchange it for another.

Just ask.

All they can say is "no" and throw you out.

And you have probably been thrown out of nicer places before! ;D

Is the reel OK other than the weight? Do you like it otherwise? Is the weight actually bothering you or are you bothered because you know what it weighs?

I know nothing about the reel, but the answer to your question is no, the reel is not too heavy for bass fishing. I've been using Daiwas for years which are in the 11-12 oz. area and they are not a problem.

I have a 7' Fenwick and I actually put the heaviest reel I own, a Pflueger, from Dick's, on it to help balance the rod.  The reel that came on the Fenwick as a combo was way too light and the rod was very tip heavy,

and was very tiring to fish.  It is much better now.  Put it on the right rod, you'll like it.
