How much does it weigh

Featured Replies

if this question has been answered elsewhere, please direct me.

I am starting to get a few years on my joints and would like to look for a rod or rods that are more light weight, especially for spinner baits/buzz baits and cranks.  But I really don't know what a good rod weighs.  I know that if I sell the dog and rent out my kid, I can buy a high end rod that has to be weighted down to keep it from floating off.  But I am looking for something more practical.

Right now, I have several Rick Clunn and other BPS rods - just wondering about the weight so that I can try to make some comparisons.  Thanks for any help.

3-4 ounces.

But it won 't do any good to your joints if you save weight in a light rod just to add a heavy reel on it. :)

Chronarch 50/51 Mg + GLoomis MBR783 = slightly above 10 oz.

Also keep in mind that it will be easier on you if your rod and reel are well balanced.  Sometimes you have to add weight to achive this but it will feel lighter.

Also if a loomis is not in your price range, check out the Browning Midas rods. For 130 bucks It is an awesome rod, sensitive, feels great to hold, and cant weigh more than 3-4 ounces

Spinning combo's will balance better, and "feel" lighter. Larger baitcasting reels will feel heavy. Unless you looking for longer rods, over 7 ft, you'll want to start out getting lighter reels, sub 8.5 oz. I have bad wrists, and I notice the balance and feel of the reel much more than the rod.
