Revo STX or Advantage HSTA?

Featured Replies

Currently fishing with a Pflueger Supreme, and Daiwa's Steez and  Viento, and am considering another reel to use with a Light & Tough 7' M or H rod. The two reels under consideration are a Revo STX and an Advantage HSTA and, again, turn to members for their opinions on the reels. Both reels seem to have good ad reads, but I'd like to get some user inputs.

Any thoughts?

I'd go with the STX (big suprise).  But I shopped long and hard before I decided to buy my first REVO.  The Revo is super smooth, built exceptionally well, has hella-powerful drag (great in case you want it to pull double duty on big fish), and casts light lures with ease.  Abu's customer service is top notch.

Micropterus- thanks. Went with the STX. Smooth as silk.

I just got another one for Christmas. It's the STX in 6.4:1 - my first Revo in 6.4:1. I put it on a Fenwick HMG 7' MH rod. I going to sleep with it tonight.

What made you go with the STX over the TD-A HSTA?

That is a tough call, you will go well with either.

The reels appeared similar in performance, so it boiled down to diversity. My spinning tackle is Shimano's Symetre and Sedona, and Daiwa's SS series. When I started baitcasting this past Spring I went with Pfleuger and added two Diawa reels. Never had an Abu, so I thought I'd give one a try - call it a learning curve. Sure wish someone had a "rent-a-reel" business, it could eliminate a lot of trial and error.
