All Star ASR Series Review

Featured Replies

I just got back from my second field test of the ASR series rod (6'9" Extra Fast Medium) from All Star, and I have to say, for 90 bucks this is one amazing rod. It has all of the sensitivity of the higher priced All Star Platinum, H&H HX4, and the Browning Midas. The entire rod is a deep green with a nice gloss finish, alconite guides, and a universal hook keeper.

The 6'9" is listed as a topwater/spoon, and while it has a soft tip that is perfect for topwaters I decided to really test it and I put everything from 1/2oz spinnerbaits, 1/4oz bitsy bug jigs, DT 4-6, and texas rigs.

While it was a little soft for a spinnerbait rod, and I lost some fish because of a poor hookset. It made a great finesse jig rod, crankbait rod and even a light texas rig rod, and I can easily see this rod a shakey head, drop shot, or jerkbait rod.

Overall I would give it a 9.0 with its only real downfalls were that it is hard to do a two hand cast with a split grip, and that it would be better classed as a Moderate/Fast action. But speaking on behalf of the entire ASR series I love the one that I have and have already ordered my next one, a 6'10" spinning rod coming next week.

Nice review.  Where'd you get it?

They have some great deals on rods and reels. I got a Pflueger Summit from there for 140 bucks, as opposed to BPS who has it for 160.

Yeah, when I was looking at the Shimano Chronarch Mg thet guy at Bass Pro gave me a "tip" and told me to check out that site.  He told me it's the one site BPS won't do a price match with.  They even sell BPS reels for less than BPS.

So you got it, no problems?  Was it package well?  How long did it take?

I had ordered the Pflueger Summit and the Rod at the same time, I got the reel but not the rod so I called and found out that the owner inspects each rod before he sends them out, and while he was checking mine he found that one of the guides was messed up so he held it back and ordered a new one from All Star. But the reel was double packaged with bubble wrap inbetween the two boxes. The rod came in a UPS triangle tube that was taped to death with about four layers of packing tape, and inside the box the rod was supported with cardboard support.

The only thing is that they can choose to send it UPS or USPS, and that it takes 2-5 days to process the order.

And dont worry about the 3 Day Select or UPS Ground option, if you check UPS's website it says that it takes the same amount of time to ship.

Those rods are very very tempting, even for me.   :)

You have to be careful though, at 90 bucks you cant have just one ;D. After the first time fishing with mine I came back home and ordered another one I liked it so much.
