Adding braid to my reel?

Featured Replies

Hi all, great forum. I have been reading for months before I finally bought my first baitcaster. Curado 200DHSV, with 30Lb Suffix braid ;)

I have had it about 2 weeks and have been using it everyday. Of course I am getting backlash now and then, but not too often. I have had it 3 times though where it was bad enough to require cutting some line off the spool. I am just not that patient.

Now that I have had to cut so much line off, is it OK to add more braid to the spool using a uni-uni knot, or am I asking for trouble?

if you dont have enough existing line on your spool then go ahead and use a uni-uni knot to attach them thats how i attach my braid and mono. you would thin that the knot would mess up the way the line spools on but it really doesnt affect anything.

I think you'll be fine, especially if you can add 50 yards or more. You usually don't need more than that for bass fishing, so the knot wouldn't even come into play. Just keep adding 50 yards at a time and you'll get two or three uses from one of those 125- or 150-yard spools.

Thanks for the info. I'll go ahead and add some tonight.

I am not even sure how much was on there to begin with. The guy at the store put the braid on for me.

You want to fill the spool up to about an 1/8" from the edge.

There is a small taper at around that point on the spool on my Curado. That is where I had planned on stopping at.

Sound good?

yep, sounds good. Just make sure you get it on there tight as possible.
