Help Flipping

Featured Replies

How do you Flip? I know how to pitch very accuratley, but I have no clue on flipping. Also, what's a good flipping rod? Thanks.

Go to fishing articles (on this site), then click on fishing techniques, there are a two different articles on flipping.

I realize you mentioned you know how, but I wanted to post this pic too.  ;)

Don't have a flippin' rod I can recommend because I don't have one yet.

May I suggest you purchase Denny Brauer's "Advanced Flipping, Pitching and Jigging" video produced by Strike King?

Excellent video on how to pitch and flip plus his secrets to using jigs.

This one-hour video is something you need to see to learn how to flip and pitch in different situations.

You may have to find it on the internet as I do not know if any of the tackle shops or Brauer's web site still have it.

If you can't find the video, get the book.  It is outstanding and you will have something to read this winter and then try in the spring.

I would leave it engaged, but that is just me. There is nothing set in stone with regard to that.

Is your reel diengaged when you flip? I'm guessing so?

Reel engaged.  When flipping you're using a preset amount of line that you've stripped off to fish with.  As the cute little illustration above indicates,  when you need to move your bait to a new position, you raise the rod tip while simultaneously pull back on the line.  This causes the bait to swing back towards you.  Once the bait reaches the apex of it's swing and begins swinging back, you begin lowering your rod tip while letting out line.

Sorta like fly casting.
