Old DAWG>>New Tricks;  Making the switch from Fenwick to All STAR

Featured Replies

Hey Fellas; I bought my first couple of All Stars and thanks to Red Liner and LBH a few more fpund there way here I AM GOING TO ALL STAR RODS, those Fenwicks have served me well but these All Stars are something else. The new Cabelas Catalog has the new ASR's my friend Danny just got one. These rods blow everything Fenwick,St Croix and Falcon rods at the 100 buck pricing point outta the water, so to speak. The fellas up this way are all meeting at Cabelas next Sunday i know what I will be looking at! 8-)

Thank you . It really takes a full season to get to rate a rod but your inital reaction seems on the money> After i get one , after my tax return comes, we can compare notes. The slaesman at Cabelas said intial sales info was it was competing with the Premiers by St,Croix, thats an understatement The All Star Instinct which is far cheaper is more like the Premier these rods are a lot of value for the money.

Yeah, I will be taking it down to Florida tomorrow to give it a real workout. I have been trying to get a DD down there for a while now, and I have some private lakes that I will try it in to get a better estimate of its total stregnths and weaknesses.

I Really like the All Stars too, especially their great value. They are some of the best rods in the $100 price range, in my opinion.

You should try the platinum series!   :o

You'll forget about spending over $150 for a rod ever!   ;)

It will either be an ASR or a Team Alls Star IM 10. I am hinkey about the split handle. The rods Alpster and Dave G make, don't have such a pronounced gap I am bringing one of my Trions or will use and in store one. I am suspecting while they are great rods that might be the fly in the ointment for me. EIHER WAY HOW CAN I LOOSE?

I'm a fan of both.

I have two HMG spinning and one HMG casting, as well as a spinning HMX.

I have two IM10 casting, four American Classic casting, and one American Classic spinning.

As far as sensitivity goes, the HMG is a wee bit better than the IM10.

The IM10 is a wee bit more sensitive than the American Classic.

I can't tell much difference between the American Classic and the HMX.

The American Classic is a brutally strong and very sensitive rod.  At $90 is hard, very hard, to beat.   On top of that, it's a beautiful rod.

I like my mix.  But if I had to have just one brand and line, I'd go with the American Classic.   I've caught more fish on my American Classic 6'6' medium/fast with my Abu Garcia 500 ALB than I have on my other rods combined.
