Need advice for first baitcasting setup

Featured Replies

  • Super User

Alright, I didn't think I would ever end up getting a baitcasting rig but I think it is time to get one. I need another setup for bigger presentations than my spinning outfit can handle.

I'm looking for reel and rod suggestions for under $150 combined. Also, I'm looking for a Medium/Heavy to Heavy action.

Any brands, models, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

In your price range a BPS Extreme rod/reel combo is your best bet for a quality set up. I really liek the Extreme rods, the reels are just ok, but BPS also offers the Extreme rods with a Shimano Citica, DaiwaTierra, Pflueger Presidant, or Abu Garcia Revo SX for less than $200, those are all great reels and your getting the rod for a HUGE discount as the rod alone normaly sells for $99.
