A couple of years ago I re-discovered braid -- this was the only kind of fishing line available when I was a kid -- and I was pleasently surprised at how easy it was to cast, to pick out the back lash, and to feel the bite.  But then I started listening to all the other guys and slowly began to move toward flouro carbon and hybrid lines.  My efficiency began to suffer - now I use braid for all of my spinner bait/buzz bait applications, jigs and frogs.  I still play around with flouro for most soft plastic applications, but have been thinking about switching back again.

Im glad you said that. I never thought a rock could do such a thing to braid. That might explain some of my mysterious braid line breaks.

Anytime you can get away with it ie....dirty to stained water or at night. Only time i wont use it when i can get away with it is for crankin.

I experimented with braid and fluorocarbon a far bit last summer. On one outing I was flipping milfoil in 10 ft of water on a crystal clear lake and my catch ratio was no better with fluorocarbon. I had an area that produced over 20 bass and the majority of those bass were caught on the rod with braid. I fished in 30 min intervals with both types of line. I am thinking of using a fluorocarbon leader this year for its abrasion resistance against zebra muscles not for its invisibility.

Yes, in clear water it does matter!  I fish jigs alot and I did use braid without a leader line and my partner out fished me 4 to 1 useing the same jig, weight, color. So I went to  a clear line and I did much better. I know what alot of you will say about the leader line, it was just a test that we did, so if I were to fish it in clear water on a slow bait use a leader line! I fish alot at night and I would not use it again without the leader line, they say fish can see just as well at night as they can in daylight and I beleave this to be true.

What knot and leader material are you using?

As the leader I use a Fluorocarbon line in 8 lb. test, as for the knot I like the palmar knot.
