Well, I just received a new baitcasting reel after years of sticking to spinning reels after a bad experience with an el cheapo baitcaster.  I went with an Abu Garcia Revo S which so far is obeying me and feels like it was made specifically for my hands despite the fact I have huge hands.

Anyway, I've been wondering what the metal bar that is parallel and over the spool is; it can apparently be unscrewed via a knob above the brake knob for some reason..?  I've looked through the documentation that came with the reel and the Abu site with no result.  It vexes me greatly.

Without having much Abu Garcia experience at all, I would guess that the screw is what holds the side plate with the brakes on.  I would think if you unscrew it, you could twist the sideplate and get to the pins.

After looking back through the manual, I think you're right.
