10lb Fire Line Crystal Review

Featured Replies

First outing with it I immediately noticed it is not as round and smooth as Suffix braid.  When reeling it in with a crank bait it caused slight vibration in the rod similar to an unsmooth fishing reel with bearing noise.  I didn't get further with testing.  That was enough for me.

However I am using it in 2 lb on my crappie rod without that or any other problem.

I hate all fireline, it just plain sucks!

I tried the 14/6 fireline crystal and also thought it was not smooth. However, it did get a bit smoother with use. Still does not compare to sufix braid which is the best I've tried so far. Yesterday, we transferred the fireline crystal to a friend's reel and he fished with it for awhile.....said he wouldn't buy it, but can't find much wrong with it. Pretty much my take.

I've used alot of fireline regular(smoke) on light spinning gear for smallies and its great but for anything heavy i use braid. The real question is why were you using fireline for crankbaiting

I had heard it is a less visible type of braid.  I use braid with a floro leader for everything.  Thought maybe I could eliminate the leader.  What application is Fireline suited for?

Isn't Fireline braid?

That must be why the 2 lb is just 2 strands loosly wound. :-?

I used it once, won't use it again.  It wasn't terrible, but it did begin to fray after several uses.  As for the crystal, that's what I used, and it didn't seem to be any less visible in the water than normal braid.  I use Power Pro for braid, and haven't had a single problem with it.

I've used 4#, 6#, 10#, 10# crystal and 20# Fireline. Casting and spinning reels. No problems; no worries. JMO.

I just ordered some Spiderwire Invisi-Braid. We'll see how that compares.
