Crankin' Rod

Featured Replies

Got a question. If I bought a 6'6" or 7' crankin' rod, are they only good with cranks? I mean, if cranks weren't working that day, what else could I rig on that rod? Thanks.

I suppose any fast moving bait like a chatterbait or a spinnerbait would work ok, but you'll have a tough time with soft plastics, jigs or any other bait you might fish with with a little slack in the line. Just too tough to get a good hookset.

You'd be better off to fish crankbaits on a worm rod, than fishing plastics on a crankbait rod.

Yup, I used mine with Spinners and Chatters just like Daniel said.  Never had a problem.

Baitcaster is better for most applications.  Try a 5:1 or slower baitcaster reel and for light balsa baits or baits like a Shad Rap, I like a spinning reel better.  Less backlashes and more distance with the spinning reel with small crankbaits.

You could use it to slow roll big spinnerbaits.  I always go with baitcaster to throw cranks. A spinning rod will wear you out if you have to throw it all day. I would personally get a MH rod with moderate action 7' in length.
