Skipping rod ?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a skipping rod that retails under $200 and would appriciate any suggestions. I think a spinning rod is what I will buy but I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks,

Gary

6'10" Falcon Cara, not the redesigned cara though.  I don't Like the split grips on the new one.  So then the next logical choice would be a 6'10" Falcon Lowrider.  Great skipping rod.

6'6" Fenwick Techna AV MH.  Check out the new Elite Tech skipping rod if you can find it anywhere.  I haven't used it or seen it anywhere, but the other models of the ETs seem dialed in, so I have high hopes for that one.

I checked out the Kistler skippin rod at the store.  It's a 6'3" rod, but they put the reel seat right at the bottom.  Compared to the 6'9" Daiwa that I use right now, the Kistler was only 1-2 inches shorter at the tip when you hold both normally.  The handle on the Kistler is a little stub, and I tend to use both hands when skipping, so I crossed this one off the list.

Good point on the Kistler skipping rod.  I saw that at Cabelas & was wondering how it was.  I thought the handle was a little short, I too like to skip lures w/ both hands.

Shimano makes a Compre spinning in 6'3" w/ the cork cutout for the index finger.  Also Cabelas new Magtouch spinning rod has a 6'3" length, it doesn't say its for dock skipping though.  Also BPS has a 6'3" in the Pro Finesse & Pro Qualifier spinning rods.

I guess theres a few choices.
