Sufix Siege mono

Featured Replies

I heard that this is great mono, with little memory...well, I think memory is a good thing.

I drove an hour round trip to the closest Dick's S.G. the other day to get new line for a couple spinning reel. I heard good things about Seige from a few fishing shows on TV so I thought I'd try it. Well, let's just say it made me look like a complete idiot yesterday.

Let me just say, without going into any great detail, it's the worst line I have ever used. It gave me problems initially spooling the line on the reel. The lack of memory causes the line to jump off the spool, sit loosely on the spool, both which cause twisting and knots which make for wind knots during some casts.

I will say that the line is VERY strong. I got hung up twice and I had a hard time breaking the line off after not being able to shake my lure free.

Other than the strength, the line is horrible.

Pros: seems to have good tensile strength

Cons:Doesn't sit tight on spool, twists and knots too easily and too often

Side note, does Stren make Suffix? Becuase if you look at the packaging on both, you'll notice the same fish image on both. Because I was going to say I'd go back to Original Stren, but I might go to Cajun Red. I have never had a problem with this line. I had the same line on my spinning reel for over a year and a half and the line was still strong and castable. Plus I liek the advantage of the transparent red line dissapearing. Whether it makes a big difference or not...it can;t hurt.

I've never even tried seige, but I love Sufix Elite.

I use both of the Sufix Mono lines and they are great lines. They are the best mono lines that I have ever used!!!!!!!!!!

Sufix Seige is more of a BC line. Sufix Elite is much more manageable on spinning reels.

id have to dissagree, i have only used it on spinning and its the best ive used so far. the only difference ive found between the two are that the elite is better suited to open water however the siege is great for fishing cover (the reason i love it). personally i think that may have been a bad spool. And to answer your other question no they are not made by stren ;)

p.s. i wont tell you whjat my thoughts on cajun are :-X

Did you put it on a spinning reel and if so, what # test? Going over 10# in any mono can be troublesome on most bass sized spinning reels.

When line falls off of a spinning reel like that, it can mean that there is too much line on the spool.  It could also mean that the reel's setting for line lay could be top heavy.

The reason I am guessing you are talking about a spinning reel is because line jumping off of a casting reel is virtually nil.

You didn't mention the reel type or the # test you bought and knowing those two things would be helpful.

I have used both siege and elite and they are among the best monos I have used.

I'm on board with the Elite and Siege doing what I wanted them to.  Great lines, the Siege being a little stiffer and more abrasion resistant.

I would have to agree with the original poster. I bought both seige and elite last year to put on some of my, and a buddies baitcasters. We both experienced a lot of backlashing problems. I felt bad for putting it on his reels. Interestingly enough, after about 2 or 3 long outings the line became more manageable. I believe it was the lack of memory that created the backlashing issues. The line seemed fine after a few weeks but, those first few outings had me frustrated. I won't be putting any on this year.  I guess that smooth talking Shaw Grigsby convinced me to switch.  I learned my lesson and am going back to Yo Zuri.

I've used both Seige and Elite in multiple # ratings. The only backlashes or problems I've had with with either line have been for not properly adjusting the brakes or trying to make a cast directly in the wind.  Both of those are laziness on my part. The G2 winding I think is awesome.
