Why no grease in my Revo S Box?

Featured Replies

Abu Garcia shows that you should grease certain areas and oil others and we all know that the gears need a little grease. My new Revo S came with a small bottle of oil but no grease. When I took it apart the first time to do some tuning I noticed that the grease was next to none existent so I used a tiny bit of grease on the gears anyway.Oiled the bearings and the inside of the pinion gear and a dab of oil on each end of the axle and so on. WHERE"S THE GREASE ?!! :-/ Mike

Actually I have never seen grease included with the reel. Oil yes but grease no. My Revo S came with oil only.

Going off of that though....it is very odd that with my citica 100dsv there was oil included with the reel but when my Citica 200d came in there was nothing but the reel and manual. Both were ordered from TW. Strange....but I have more than enough oil from the 100 to service both when needed.

Because there isn't anything on the outside of the reel that uses grease.

Grease in the reel is only used on the main drive and pinion gear teeth and only there. :)

I've been buying reels for 40 years and none have come with grease, many had a small container of oil, the others had nothing but none had grease.

Maybe they are telling us not to take it apart when it comes time for grease. They want us to send it to reelmechanic for that stuff! ;D

If I had to do that every time I took it apart after a day of fishing in sand and rain I would be broke and the reelmechanic would be cruising the lakes in a new Bass boat. :)

I just find it kind of odd that they show or tell you what to GREASE and oil on the reel but they only send the oil. That could be confusing to a newcomer. Thanks for the replies, Mike

You are right, today they don't want you inside the reels.

Not on what I'm charging you guys....Besides you don't need to break the reel down every time for internal cleaning. I would only do that once a season, or if you actually feel the sand in the main gear (which I don't think you would feel).

Because back in the early days the only schematics for service were found in the user manual. When the angler walked into a tackle shop that would do repairs that was what was used, the users manual.

That could be confusing to a newcomer.
Most newcomers just throw the box and everything in it away as soon as they get the reel out of it, they think they know all there is to know about a reel, because they read it on a forum.............

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Thanks for the info reelmechanic, I like to keep a clean and smooth running reel because thats the way I was taught by my Dad back in the late 50's and 60's as a kid.We didn't have allot of money so a new rod and reel was a precious thing and you took good care of it. Old habits die hard . Mike
