Flippin & Pitchin Combo?

Featured Replies

This is my new combo= Bass Pro 7'10" H action Extreme rod and A Shimano Citica C100DSV. Did I take the wright rod  and reel or should I have gone to a MH rod and another reel?  I have been going back and forth about this, what do you guys think?

You have a great rod for flipping, however I personally pitch more than flip in the upper midwest so I went with a MH with a mod. fast action tip to give me a little more lure control while pitching.  It is a St. Croix Tournament Bass which is probably closer to a H action, but the soft tip is great for lure control when pitching (softer presentation) and is nice if you are using braid and like to set the hook harder as it gives a little cushion for your equipment as well.

Take care,

Steve

Thank's Steve for your input! Any more comments would help. I am not sure if I should take the rod back and get a MH or stay with the H action? I want to pitch and flip with the same rod.

I think that the heavy action will be fine, for me personally it would be length and weight, but then again I am short and am a fan of high end reels like the Steez, Alpha's and such.  So to me it wouldn't make much sense to by a 5.5 oz. reel and put it on a 9 oz. rod.

Do you plan on using braid or mono?  I would suggest 17-20 pound mono with a Heavy for Wisconsin, but that is me.  I actually do most of my pitching with a St. Croix Elite 7'0" MH though.  The "flipping" stick I have doubles as a pitching and flipping rod and sometimes I will throw a frog on it as well if the frog fishing is really good so I can have 2 rods with frogs.

PM if you want to talk about any Wisconsin specific fishing.  I'm about 3 hours north of you or so.

Take care,

Steve

Steve, I am going to use 17 lb. Fluorocarbon. I also have two rods for frogs, one for horny toads ect. and one for Bronzeye frogs ect. and I use braid on both of them.

Do you fish any tornaments? I did fish the FLW last year and I made Zone this year.

I fish all team tournaments as I got tired of the boater non boater issues.

I fish the MSBC tournament trail, as well as the Fishers of Men National Tournament trail mostly.  My partner (which is my dad) and I fish numerous open tournaments as well as take fishing trips all over.

We are headed to northern Arkansas to fish Bull Shoals and Norfork in the beginning of May.  Spend a lot of time in northern WI as well as numerous parts of the state as well.

If you need help with a lake, PM me and I will give you some spots to try and let you know what worked for us there (if I've been there).

Take care my friend,

Steve
