Bait Casting Contest

Rules

Range: 5 targets set up on a football field at various angle from the deck; the field faces north & south

Deck: 24 tall x 4' x 4'

Tackle: Participants choice

Targets: Made from Styrofoam extrusion

Each participant is allowed 2 cast at each target

Points are only given for cast landing inside the target

Cast must be made at 30-40 yards; after that any combination of 4 casts can be used

Tie breaker: 1 cast @ the 75 yd target

Judge will be at each target to verify score

3' diameter @ 75 yds: 25 points

30" diameter @ 50 yds: 20 points

24" diameter @ 40 yds: 15 points

18 diameter @ 35 yds: 10 points

12 diameter @ 30 yds: 5 points

Sounds easy? Add wind, rain, back lashes, brain farts & artificial plants of various heights arranged around the target

My highest score is 135 points; 60 points for the 30-40 yd targets, 50 points for the 75 yd target & 25 for the tie-breaker. My percentage at the 75 yd target is 30%

Get a couple buddies, set up the range and give it a try ;)

STYROFOAM???

We use thimble's and Dixie cups  ;D

Cool idea though.  I suggest, all the folks who swear B/c is better than spinning, to let the spinning guys compete with you, side by side.  I'm not claiming one side or the other, just saying.  ;)

You could set up a flip/pitch section too, smaller, harder targets, some with "defensive" obstacles to get around, under or in.

Styrofoam extrusion can be bought at Lowe's or Home Depot, it's used as expansion joints in concrete.

Tried the Flipping & Pitching; to easy & takes all day to crown a winner

Tackle: Participants choice  ;)

3 inches at 75 yards!!!!!!!!!! That's harder than throwing a 90mph backdoor slider and cutting the  inside corner of the plate!!!!!!!!!!!

I can hit a Cadillac at 30 yards, how many points for that

What was your set up for the contest Catt? lure, line, rod ,reel? Or are they seceret?? haha ;D

This is our practice course and we'll run through it 3 or 4 times a day for a couple weeks prior to competition. 80% of the time we concentrate on the short course (30-40) because if it's windy you'll never need the 50-75 yd range. I have also used the short course with large targets and shorter distances to teach bait casting to newbie's. It's cheap, easy to setup and they can practice daily. One of our archery buddies came up with the idea

The rod has varied over the years but my current choice is

Shimano Crucial CRC-X610MH

Length: 6' 10

Line: 10-20 lb

Lure: 3/8-3/4

Power: Medium Heavy

Action: Extra Fast

Line has never changed: Berkley Big Game 15# Mean Green

Reels:

Shimano Calcutta CT50 Gear Ratio: 5:0.1 Weight: 7.4 oz Bearings: 3+1

Shimano Calcutta CT100 Gear Ratio: 5:8.1 Weight: 8.8 oz Bearings: 2+1

Lures: Texas Rigged plastic because it has less wind resistance
