G-Blanks rods?

Featured Replies

Hav e any of you guys had any experience using G-Blanks rods? I want a light weight md/hvy swim jig/tube rod, and was thinking about one of these, or possibly a customized St.Croix from reel mech, that is when he has a spare laying around...:)

any feedback would be awesome!

G blanks are sweet rods, they use rainshadow blanks.  They are very light, lighter than a GLX, probably not as good but that is all rel;ative, you can buy 3 for the price of one glx.  They can costomize it to fit your preferences which is cool for a rod under $150

Can you point me to the published weights, or where you saw this?

If you go on EBAY they sell lots of rods on there.  Just search gblanks rods and you should find it.  I have been looking for a custom rod and looked at their rods and called them to see what blanks they use.  The rod I was looking at was a 6'6" med, fast, that they said weighs 1 ounce lighter than a glx, my friend has one and it is super light although i haven't actually weighed it.  They are so light you almost to go with a mg50 or steez, or some other super light reel or get the next size up (lenght wise) rod- instead of 6'6" get 7'.  I am just passing on the info I was told by the man I talked to on the phone from the company please correct me if I am wrong I don't want to spread misinformation.

G-Loomis doesn't publish the weight of their rods, but I have my 6'10" Medium GLX on a digital scale weighing in at 3.6 oz.

Rainshadow (Batson Enterprises) does publish the weight of their blanks. Their best 6' 6" Med RX8 C-783 blank weighs 2.17 oz without any hardware attached. If the finished G-blanks rod is a full ounce lighter than a comparable GLX, then the reel seat, grips, guides, thread and epoxy would have to weigh less than 1/2 oz. The lightest reel seat in my stock weighs 0.6oz by itself. If you add guides and cork the rod will be near double the weight of the blank. I think you have been misinformed.

I can't find any on ebay, can someone post a link so I can check them out?

If you look how they are set up there is hardly any hardwhere on them.  AndI am sure it depends what action and power as well, like I said I am jsut passing on the info I am gettting, personally I would go with cooks of Oregon for a semi custom rod.  Just search Cooks of Oregon rods on google and you will find it.  He uses mostly loomis blanks you can get an IMX shipped for under 200, great price for something of that quality.  He has made me 3 and they are put together as loomis factory rods and you can choose a lot more options.

I have  a MBR844C Loomis GLX rod and just recently sold a 6'10 gblanks rod.

The Gblanks rod was NOTICEABLY lighter.

The gblanks rods are PLENTY sensitive, and are very good rods.
