Dicks' Field and Stream Combos

Featured Replies

The last time I was at Dick's Sporting Goods, which must have been a month or so ago, I noticed that they were selling, or at least carrying, a lot of spinning combos that were under the Field and Stream brand name. They had two different types, one was the more expensive of the two, and I think they were from $40-$60, those are just estimate, but they weren;t very expensive. I was thinking about picking up a few of these to try out and keep as back ups or for permanent use depending on how well they fish. They were IM6 and IM7 graphite respectively, meaning the more $$$ one was 7. I was looking for a couple inexpensive jig/worm rods.

Has anyone fishied with these or know anyone who has fished with these? I'm not sure if they even still are carrying them, but I would like some feedback if anyone has anything. Thanks.

I picked up one of the better rods when they were on sale.  I got a 7'6" flipping rod, MH telescopic.  I don't really flip baits very often, and I use a 7'3" or 7' rod for pitching baits as I do that far more frequently.  Soooo, I figured I would buy a longer rod that I could try and dedicate it to flipping.  I wasn't sure if I would commit to putting more time into the technique, so I figured a relatively inexpensive rod would do just fine until I can warrant dropping some money on a premium rod.  I've used the rod a handful of times since I've purchased it.  It's actually suprisingly sensitive for a rod at that price.  It's a little on the heavy side.  But, then again, I don't own another rod of that length, power, and action to compare it to. It seems to be built well, but I haven't had it long enough to comment on the durability.  In fact, when I was checking them out, I didn't notice any QC type issues with any of the handful of rods that I checked out.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but that's my limited experience with a F&S rod.

thanks salamander. What part of mass are you from. I live on the north shore and do most of my bassin pond hoppin' and casting from shore. I wish my experience was more of on the water in a boat trolling around so I could enhance my skill, but I'll take what's available for now.
