  1. I'm going to be spending some time down in Charleston and would love to spend a day out on Marion while I'm here. I don't have any of my gear, though and would love to hire a guide. Can anyone recommend someone that I could use or speak with?
  2. I see. I incorrectly assumed it was happening while spooling, for some reason. It didn't even cross my mind that it was happening all the time. :-[
  3. not true.never happened to any pfueger i owned. Unless you can say, "I can't make it happen on a Pflueger," it has nothing to do with the fact that it's a Pflueger and is more than likely related to how it's being done. I know for certain that I can make it happen on a Pflueger because I've done it. I typically put tension on the line with my fingers just in front of the reel. If I bias the grip my fingers have on the line to one side or the other as I'm spooling, the line will spool heavier to the side that is favored regardless of the reel brand. So, if you notice the line starting to spool a little heavier to one side, you can usually correct it by favoring the other side. At least this my experience.
  4. I think I got it goin' pretty consistently now. I just do the wraps like the stripes on a barber pole. Just tight enough to keep them from overlapping. Same when switching directions. I am having that same issue with the finger placement. I think that just gets ironed out the more you do it. I've been doing the uni-uni for better than 20 years. But, this knot seems to come through guides much better. I just dont have the confidence in it yet. I know if that knot fails because I tied it wrong, I'll go right back to the uni without giving it a fair shot. I don't want that to happen so I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.
  5. Thanks for the helpful response. I think I get it. You're smart and I'm dumb. And I'm okay with that. :-X
  6. I disagree. I use the Alberto for flyline to leader, for instance. Butt section of the leader makes the wraps. If you're joining two lines of different diameters, the larger diameter gets the loop, the other makes wraps, that's the whole point of the knot, otherwise you should just tie a bloodknot. Thank you for all the responses. This is exactly what I've heard and read about this knot (larger diameter line gets the loop.) So, I tried it using the braid as the wrapping line instead of the other way around, and that is so much easier. It cinches down perfect and comes out nice. But, when I wrap the flouro, or mono, around the braid, I have the hardest time getting the mono to cinch down correctly. Anyone else getting that or is it just me? :-/ And, as far as braid wrapping the mono, anyone have issues with the braid biting the mono when you put it to the test?
  7. I've been seeing and hearing about this knot quite a bit lately. So, I've decided to try tying it but with mixed results. I'm reading that the loop goes in the larger line, and the wrapping line is the thinner. So, if I'm tying a 12 lb. flouro leader to 40 lb. braid, should I be putting the loop in the braid or the leader? I've been doing the loop in the braid but am having a hard time cinching the knot down. Is it normally difficult to cinch this knot down?
  8. I'm also a big fan of the chronarch 50mg, but you've got me interested... how so, is it better?
  9. Just a shot in the dark, but I've had this happen to me and figured out that it was the braid biting into itself on the spool. In other words, big fish, snag, whatever... the braid would bite down into the spool. On your next cast, the spool goes around stops and stops dead at that spot; especially if it's not too far from the top of the spool. So, your snap cast sends the lure flying, and the line lays back on your spool going the wrong way. Like a said, shot in the dark, but it has happened to me enough times for it to become frustrating. <Modified to add:> The line was 30lb pp.
  10. I'm not entirely against the movement. I mean, whatever the data suggests or however it is presented, it's a known fact that lead exposure isn't good for wildlife or humans. Ban it, or don't ban it... bottom line is people will continue to use it because it is still more readily accessible and cheaper than any other material for it's intended use. And, it's a good chance these will, in large part, be the same people that ruined it for those of use who do try and act responsibly when they let us out of the house. You know the ones that I'm talking about... can't clean up after themselves when they go fishing and leave trash and nightcrawler containers everywhere they fish... feel that it's cool to leave a 100 yards of line in a snarled mess right by the boat ramp... pretty much anything they don't want anymore stays right where they fished last. When, you consider all the advancements in the fishing industry, especially in recent history, it's a bit surprising that lead is still the primary material for weighted tackle and that an alternative has not already become the norm. Then it would be easier to justify the banning of lead. As mentioned, I hope this movement does help the industry find better ways to do weighted tackle that is more affordable. I'm a big fan of tungsten weights, and also a big fan of not losing them. I do, however, strongly believe that the fishing industry is still playing off it's superior characteristics with respect to lead to help keep the high price tags. But, right now, tungsten jigs could be considered a luxury item... steel, bismuth, or alloy jigs... do they even have those? I just think it's too early. That's all.
  11. I went to the sportsman circus today at the Big E and spoke with a guy from the wildlife and fisheries department about the ban on lead for 2012. I don't know if this has been discussed here at all, but what do you guys think about this? The bullet, drop shot, split shot... that's not a huge deal, but replacing all those jigs... that's killin' me just thinking about it. I asked him about spinnerbaits and he said he didn't think those were on the list. But, he also said that was because the wire wouldn't rust because it was aluminum. That kinda blew up his credibility. What have you guys heard?
  12. You rock! Thanks.
  13. Thank you much. I was pulling my hair out trying to match it up online. I got a few of them in a crankbait lot purchase. I checked the Academy website, but not a lot of information on them. Could anyone direct me on where I may be able to find the running depth range for the various models they sell? It looks like I have 3 different bill sizes, and I'd like to mark them. They're all round bill.
  14. Could someone tell me who makes this crankbait? Thanks.
