Hey I just started using this softbait alot more and Ive noticed sometimes it darts close to the top, and other times it darts in the middle. I just wanted to know if there is a way of controling where it darts to. I was trying to get it to dart in the middle, but it kept dartin on the top, and then every now and then I managed to get it in the middle. Is there a way to control where it darts? Or is it just a random action? How do you keep it on top? And how do you keep it down lower?

try to keep it down, when you jerk it, with pauses. The bait with usually come up fast. Everyone has their own jerk style because different rods they use and their arm lengths are different. So there really isnt one special kind of retreive. Just try to find out what works for you.

I've always though it was where the hook is in the bait because I know if the hook is not

centered it will dart to that side. What kind of hook are you using?

If you want to keep it down consistantly, attach a small screw in weight into the nose of the bait.

the weight nose works, i like breaking it smaller. Dont what to lose to much action. Also weighted hooks work alot better for flukes.

The action of the fluke is totally random, that's what makes it such a great bait. But you can help it keep it down by inserting a finishing nail or two into the head as weight and keeping your rod tip down when twitching it.

To weight it and keep the natural horizontal side to side motion, buy some of the Slugo insert weights (nail weights), and insert in the top portion b/w the bend of the hook and the point. Trim off the top of the weight with clippers.

Keeps the bait from nosing out of the water, and you don't lose the action at all.

The hook im using is a size 4/0 Gamakatsu Offset EWG hook. Hey can you post a link to the insert weights you guys are talking about?

An alternative weight "system" is to remove the rubber from a rubber core sinker of 1/16 or 1/8 and crimp the lead onto the hook shank.

Putting a weight at the nose of a fluke will work, but it kills the unique quality of the bait.

I fluke's magic is in it's elusive darting motion and gentle horizontal fall.

If weight is needed the best is a belly weight.

I find that very little is needed, so I take a storm suspend strip an wrap it around the hook shank.

It's get it down a little faster without sacrificing that great flukey action.

For the best action from your fluke take your 4/0 hook and lay it against the side of the fluke exactly the way the hook will look when it's in the fluke. Take note of the spots where the hook will enter and exit the fluke. Then thread the fluke on the hook exactly that way. Make sure the hook stays on the center line of the fluke.

The way I keep it down without killing the action is I put a large swivel about 20 inches in front of the hook. I don't like to add weights to the fluke itself unless I am fishing deep.

Oh, and try useing a 4/0 or 5/0 regular offset worm hook. Your hookups will increase and the action will be better.

Use flurorcarbon line and wait a few seconds before you begin your retrieve. You can use a Gammy Superline hook also if weight is needed since that hook has a heavier wire.
