Reel retrieve speeds and applications

Featured Replies

OK,

I get confused on what reels to use for what applications depending on retrieve speed.

For example, do you use a high speed retrieve for spinnerbaits or crankbaits?  What about lipless crankbaits, or topwater, or jerk baits??

What speed reels work best for what applications, is what I am asking in a long winded way.

Also, is there a middle ground speed  for using one reel for all applications?

This is what I use:

Curado 200B38 ( 17" IPT ): deep and extra deep cranks, slow rolling big bladed spinnerbaits.

Alphas Type F, Alphas Itö, Pixy ( 22" IPT ): super shallow, shallow mid running crankbaits, spinnerbaits with lots of lift ( single & double colorado ), finesse worming.

Curado 200, TDZ, Chronarch Mg, Scorpion 1000, Scorpion 1000Mg, Metanium XT, Chronarch SF ( 26-28" IPT ): Buzzbaits, worming, jigging, topwaters, spinnerbaiting ( tandem and double willow leaf blades ).
