What casting rod/ reel is best for swimbaits??

Featured Replies

Hey all...

Getting into swimbaits and I was wondering what casting reel (gear ratio etc.) is best for larger swimbaits?? (larger hard jointed swimbaits, not Basstrix!!) Also what spec. rod is best?

Thanks,

ajr

I use a Daiwa Luna 300.

Two other very popular Swimbait reels are the Shimano Calcutta 400B or TEs, and the Shimano Cardiff if money is tight.

I use a Dobyns 806H Swimbait rod, and it's been awesome. But there's tons of options out there.

Maybe telling everyone how much you're looking to spend all together might help get more specific answers.

I use a Calcutta 400B with a Loomis 8' Back Bounce custom rod. The Back Bounce is a salmon rod, but very popular with West Coast swimbaiters.

I use a 7'0" carrot stick XH with a Diawa Megaforce. I planned on getting a Millionaire but the Mega works fine for the size baits I use.
