What did I break on my beloved Curado?

Featured Replies

I usually fish freshwater but used my curado 2 year old Curado in saltwater for a week on vacation.  Not sure if that wasn't a smart move.

Anyways the button I push down to release the line was jammed for some reason. I foolishly decided to push on it hard to see if that would fix the problem.  It didn't.  Now when I push the button, it doesn't click open and closed.  There is no tension or clickling when I push the button.  For this reason when I reel the spool doesn't move.  What have I done? And how much does this cost to repair usually?   :'(

PM the Reel Mechanic and he can probably tell you what you did.

He is our "Click and Clack" of reels on this site.  He forgot more about reels than any of us know.

Then send him the reel and he will fix it for you.

Sorry to hear that you broke your Curado.  I thought they were indestructible.

Did you clean it good after using it in salt water ?????????????

It sounds like the clutch pawl spring has broke.

If you are not familar with the internals of the reel I would send it to Reel Mech to get it cleaned and fixed.

RM, just go ahead and give him your shipping instructions. If he is smart he will send it to you.

I use my curado in the salt all the time, matter of fact I use all my reels in the salt.  I surf fish too and my reels gets dunked on accident alot, or the surf will come up high and get me.

Important is your rinse your reel after you use it.  Every month or two I break it down completely and regrease and loobe everything.  Keeps it nice.  I think you just need a reel good cleanin, send to Reel Mech or do it your self.   It's not hard.
