UL rod recommendations?

Featured Replies

Looking to buy an UL rod but not looking to spend too much any suggestions? Was thinking of a Berkley Lightning or a St croix Triumph/Premier?

My friend fishes a UL Lightning rod and it is his favorite rod.  I have a 6'6" ML St. Croix triumph that I really like.  I use this rod as my panfish/bluegill rod as well as some finesse bass fishing.  My triumph sees more water than most of my other rods combined.

I am thinking of buying an UL lightning rod to keep in my truck.

IMO you won't be dissipointed either way.

I would suggest the Premier or Triumph. My family gave me a Triumph TRS60LF(6' Light Fast) for Father's day and I absolutely love it. I like the L over UL, because sometimes you might get something a little bigger. My daughter and I were bluegill fishing Friday with worms and bobbers, and a LM got hold of mine. The Light action gave me a little more fighting power, so I landed the worm-eating bass easily, he weighed 2#5oz.

I will second the Triumph 5'.  I have it.  Fantastic Rod.

I have a 5'0 UL Triumph that does really well for panfish.

Lol yes I have! I actually started fishing on ugly sticks and kept them stored in my closet.  When I first heard of pony pastures + smallmouth I took my 5' Ugly and tried fishing with it, it was my only ultra light!  To get a proper hookset I'd have to set as hard as I could while doing a little jump just for extra power =P it was funny, lol

If you have a Gander Mountain nearby, check out the Rapala rods. Very inexpensive and they are good rods. I have a Loomis, St. Croix and others  but when I go light I pick up the Rapala.
