Braid knot question

Featured Replies

I have never used braid before. What I have gathered from here I probably should when using frogs as bait. My question is what knot do I use to connect the braid with the mono backing and what knots do you use  to connect the braid to your lures?

Thanks

if you're throwing a frog, presumably on or around pads, i'd stay away from using a leader unless it's 100% necessary. i've found using a leader is just one more way to lose fish.

Buckifan08 is right.

Just be sure to use the same diameter mono backing on your reel as the braid's diameter.  Uni Knot is the best.

As for tieing a Palamor Knot to your bait - great knot.

If you are worried the knot will pull out then dab a touch of glue on the knot itself while on the bait.

I don't use a leader as it is one more knot to fail and I use braid in heavy cover and structure and pulling frogs and worms over and through and under pads and grass where the braid will not be noticed.

Now get out of the house and give it a try.  ;)

I agree - braid to mono use the double uni. One tip though: use 4 wraps with the mono piece and 7 with the braid. This makes the knot smaller and, IMO stronger.

Another option for tying braid directly to the lure is using a Uni knot, but make sure you pass the line through the hook eye twice before tying the Uni knot. I've pulled many trees to shore, and straightened many heavy hooks with this knot combo without the slightest hint of a knot slip  8-)

I like the polymar as well with the braid, i tend to use improved clinch with other lines though.Good luck. I gotta start practicing on my uni knot now!
