I got an award at work and I can use it to buy merchandise out of some online catalogue or change it in for a $100 gift card.  There is a rod/reel combo the Shimano Callisto 100 Reel with a Shimano Scimitar rod...

Is this a good combo, or should I get the Gift Card?

    The Scimitar rod is a 2 piece 6'6" medium.

    Tackletour reviewed the Crestfire reel, the next reel UP from the Callisto and they tore it up. It wasn't even  good reel for a beginner.  Based on that, I'd avoid.  I'd go with the card and buy a Citica.
