2009 Shimano Spinning Reels-Spare Spool???

Featured Replies

I read somewheres that the 2009 Symetre doesn't come w/ a spare spool. I don't know if this is true for this reel & for the Sahara, Sedona & Sonora.

So if Shimano is not including a spare spool w/ the new reels, why? I can understand that the new 2009 spinning reels are improved w/ what the newer Stradic & Saros have, but those come w/ spare spools. So the spinning reels under $100 don't come w/ a spare spool....that makes no sense. I like having one spool w/ braid & the other w/ mono. I don't feel like spending extra cash to buy another spool from Shimano when in the past they always included a spare spool.

Can anyone confirm this?

That's not a 2009 Shimano spinning reel.

Just go to their website, and you can confirm it yourself: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/spinning/Symetre_FI.html. No spare spool listed, and yet some of the other models list one. Sounds like you don't get one. Every single one of my Daiwas has a spare spool. They also have less twist :(.

Seriously, Shimano makes great stuff too. That is a major boo-boo by Shimano not to include one at that price point. In fact, the person that buys that will probably look to use that reel for multi purpose, rather than buy multiple reels, and that will alienate the price conscious buyer.

Just got the answer from another site that has a Shimano rep.  He said that the Symetre, Sahara, Sedona, & Sonora will NOT have a spare spool.

So the price of the 2009 reels goes up $10 & you don't get a spare spool.....THAT SUCKS! >:(

It sucks only if tou're dumb enough to buy them.

he didn't mention the solstace FL but that is their least-expensive reel so it must not come with a spare spool too...it'd be ironic if it did.

That does suck.

What is worse than that is Shimano was one of the better brands when it came to spare spools. My Shimano Sedona came with a spare spool that is an exact copy of the one on the reel. I have other more expensive reels like my Daiwa Capricorn and Pflueger President that came with spare spools that were different. They both lacked the drilled holes for weight reduction that the orginal spools have. Little cost cutting things like that really bother me about some brand names.

I would rather have no spare spool than the graphite spare spools that come with some lower end reels.

None of my Stellas came with spare spools
