Field and Stream rods

Recommended Posts

You get what you pay for. Its an O.K. rod. I fished one for a month or so, and it held up fine. My buddy uses them right now and he likes them, except for our last outing one of the guide inserts popped out of his spinning rod. I think he's ready to upgrade.

If you decide to buy one off the floor, give it a good look before paying for it, I had to exchange the one I bought because I noticed in the parking lot as I was leaving that one of the guides were broken.

I would suggest saving a little more an going with an all star or something.

I have a 7' medium action IM6 model. Its not a bad rod for the money I paid (a little over $20, if I remember correctly) It is definately sturdier than my Berkley Cherrywood. The only issue I had was there was a little bit of glue on one of the guides that was messing up my casts. I gently scraped it off and have not had any problems casting with it since. The IM6 models have stainless steel guides and the IM7 have fuji guides.

I don't think I will purchase this brand of rod again though since Dick's runs specials from time to time and gives them away for free. First time was buy a Daiwa Megaforce Plus spinning reel and get a IM6 F&S rod for free. Second time was buy a reel for $39.99 and above and get a free IM6 F&S rod

I have the 7'6"MH flipping stick in the IM7 series. I am pretty impressed with it. I think I paid $60.00 for it. It has Fuji guides and an ECS reel seat. I have only been using it with frogs so I don't know how sensitive it is. I am not impressed with the IM6 series the guides are cheap looking and there isn't enough of them. But I guess for $29.00 it would work. My brother in law has one (IM6) because they had a deal if you bought a reel over $40.00 you got a free rod. He hasn't fished with it yet though.

I haven't fish with them, only just looked at them and was considering a purchase because the IM-7 rod was very similar to the Quest LS-7 rod that Dick's had sold the year before, of which I bought 2 and liked them a lot.  The casting rod in the Angler Series was nearly identical to it, only just blue instead of red.

The IM-6 Field and Stream rod looked and felt cheaply made compared to the IM-7 F & S rod.  If I got one, it would definitely be the grade up between the two.  And I've seen them on sale for nearly the same price as the cheaper rod's retail price, so if you want one I'd wait for the sale and get the better one.  That's my $0.02 on it.
