Cleaning rod/reel...

Featured Replies

wasnt sure where to put this , but this seems like the appropriate place.

how do you guys go about cleaning your rigs after fishing saltwater? i usually just hose mine down. spraying the line guides , rod and reel thoroughly. never reaaly dried them besides a quick 'pat down' with a hand towel.

anything else i should do , or is this fine?

At the very least what you are doing is fine. NEVER spray a full jet of water on the reel, only use water running out of the end of the hose. Otherwise you can force water to the inside of the reel where it can cause damage. You could spray it down with WD-40 when you're finished.

The "WD" in WD-40 stands for water dispersing, which means it will form a barrier between the water molecules and the reel surfaces.

You still need to have the reel cleaned and lubed occasionally, especially if it's been used in saltwater.
