i want some 4.5" magic shads. i was thinkin of gettin one of those hooks with the weight on the bend...are those a good choice for this kind of bait? also, what size? i was thinkin 4/0 or 5/0.

I would scratch that style hook if you can find some of the heads that have a blade like a chatterbait.  I have some a friend gave me and i use Magic Shad on them for schooling fish. Ill try to find some and post a link.

perfect head for these.  i would deffinatly try to get them and if you can't you can get the weighted hooks but trust me these give the best action to these no doubt.

thanks for the suggestions. do the magic shads have that thing where the plastic is more dense at the bottom and less dense at the top like the imakatsu ones? cuz if its like that then i can just use a regular hook (not weighted).

For a weedless/weightless presentation, I recommend the Gamakatsu G-Lock in 5/0. That hook has a large enough bend that the bulk of the bait will not overcome it's hooking ability and the shorter hook shank fits within the limited length of the bait head. I am assuming you are referring to the Lake Fork Live Magic Shad. The previous mentioned hooks with the weight and spring or spike attachment are a little too long for the bait head. Falcon has a weighted version of the G-Lock, but insertion is a bit tricky to limit damage during the process. I think your hook choice depends where in the water column you want to fish it.  If you want a surface/fluke type appearance use a none weighted hook.  If you want it further down in the water use a weighted hook. And if you want it near the bottom you can yo-yo it using the hook style I showed you.  I think the heads I showed will produce bigger fish for you because it gives a more swim bait type action whereas the other hooks make it look more like a fluke.  Its just what you want, this is a very versatile bait as you will soon come to realize.

i like the gammy glock. but are you sure 5/0? seems kinda big...maybe i should go with 4/0?

If I could find some larger ones, I'd use them. I don't like for the bait to take up a lot of the hook bend. I have some of the 5.5 size and the 5/0 is not big enough for those in my opinion. I use the 5/0 for a Super Fluke and sometimes I use the 5/0 Superline hook when I am fishing a lake with a potential for a 10# + bass. After all I am fishing for LARGEmouth bass so a large hook is appropriate.

yea that recconmends 3/0. i think im just gonna go ahead and get 4/0.

4 1/2" Live Magic Shad works great with a 4/0 Mustad Ultra Lock Impact hook, weighted or unweighted versions.  These are the hooks I use with these baits 90% of the time.
