Anyone using this reel?

Featured Replies

I came across these reels looking at Industry News under Bass News on the above menu bar. The article is titled 'WaveSpin Reel wins Field & Stream Magazine's 2008 "BEST of the BEST" Award'. TackleTour.com presented the reel with its Innovation Award. Outdoor Life Magazine fishing editor Jerry Gibbs wrote that the reel represents "the first significant improvement in salt- and freshwater spinning-reel design in more than 50 years. What sets the WaveSpin apart from its competitors is that it's virtually impossible for the line to birdnest during a cast." http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/wavespin-08.html

There are some good reviews on one of the saltwater forums about the DH5000.

Specs can be seen at http://www.wavespinreel.com/specs.html

I havn't seen any around here, BPS doesn't sell 'em, Cabelas does for i think around 80$, Tackle Tour wrote a review on it, that's where you'll find all of your best info.

I'd be wary of that "Virtually impossible for the line to birdnest during a cast" claim. Poor quality line, too heavy line, improperly spooled line, etc. is the reason 99% of the time for line management troubles with spinning gear. Rarely is it the reel's fault. I'm not knocking the reel at all, just that claim.
