Seems small, I use that size on an ice fishing panfish rod. I did land a 5 lb catfish a couple of weekends ago but I would not use that in a Bass application, must be a misprint.

I agree that is an icefishing reel.  I use Shimano Stradic 3000's on my drop shot rods.  I dont see any reason to use a small reel on a drop shot rod.  I want a reel to match the rod with a good drag and smooth operation.  

And i use 1000 model stellas and firebloods, and the drags have held up to 30+pound carp thats hit my yozuri pins minnows with no problems...

I would hope the drag on a $500 reel would hold up.
