Suggestions for a spinnerbait rod

Featured Replies

I throw mostly 1/4 and 3/8 oz spinnerbaits and am looking for a suitable 7' rod for my (coming soon...) Curado 200e7.  I am confused on what power and action I should be looking for.  My price range is roughly in the $150 - $200 range.  I'm thinking 14# YoZuri hybrid line would be good but I don't really know what's best.  I'd appreciate any advice I can get from you guys...

I use a G-Loomis Spinnerbait Rod for the lighter spinnerbaits, it is shorter than what you are looking for at 6'3". It's a M XF rod, but works well, and is rated upto a 1/2 oz.

I moslty use a 7' MH F Avid though. It's probably my all purpose rod right now. It works great with senkos, jerks, crankers, and handles any size spinnerbait I put on it perfectly. And for $150-$160 I feel it's a great rod.

As far as line, I spool most of my reels up with 10-12lb. test, but I keep 1 of my Revos with 17lb. Stren Sensor in my bag for when I'm fishing serious cover. Good Luck

I myself would really have a hard time buying a dedicated spinnerbait rod.....And I definately couldn't at that price.

Look at the BPS Johnny Morris Elite. I just picked one up. Light, sensitive, recoil guides....To buy a comparable rod from someone else you'd be paying a bunch more.

The elite is my new jig rod, I have a Rogue for tubes, a Loomis for shakin', and my crankbait rod is a old Tim Horton Plueger crankbait rod. My jerkbait rod is a Falcon lowrider.....

IMO reaction baits don't need a super sensitive rod.....All your contact baits, jigs, dropshot, shakin', tubes, etc require more sensitivity.

I use a 6'10" Quantum Tour Edition Kevin VanDam Signature Series for the heavier(1/2-1oz) spinnerbaits its MH with a fast action.

I also use a 6'6" Med/fast BPS Woo Daves Extreme rod for lighter spinnerbaits.
