Question about Sols, Aphas, Pixies...

Is the Sol the American market version of the Alpha?  What's a Pixy?  is that some kind of supertuned Alpha?

Yes, the Sol is the American version of the Alphas. The Sol is just a little heavier. The Pixy is in a class all by itself. To put it bluntly, it's just a beefed up Presso. The Presso has about 2 lbs. of drag pressure, used mainly for trout fishing in Japan. The Pixy comes stock with 3 - 4 lbs. of drag pressure.

Several mods can be made to the Pixy including a TD-Z or Zillion line guide, beefed up drag system, worm gear bearing upgrade, and a aftermarket handle if you wish. I have done these mods to all my Pixies. They are great little reels.

Micro,

I had an Alphas Type F and it was a great reel. As Jimzee stated, the Alphas is lighter. One other difference is the handle. The Sol has a forged handle while the Alphas has a nicer machined handle.  The Alphas did well with small baits-comparable to my TD-Z 105's.
